At the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, we investigate complaints about UK government departments, other public organisations and the NHS in England. Our service is free, fair and independent.

We operate with impartiality and influence to hold institutions and organisations to account and to right individual wrongs. Our unique position to identify and respond to recurrent issues means our work can lead to systemic change that improves both organisations and people’s experiences of them.

We are looking for two Non-Executive Board members as we embark on the implementation of our new 2026-2031 strategy. Our aim is twofold; to ensure that we and our stakeholders learn from complaints data to accelerate positive change, and to pursue business transformation that will enable us to harness the power of data and technology to improve user experience, outcomes and value for money. Both roles will be substantively externally facing and pivotal in implementing our strategy, strengthening partnerships and ensuring our strategic ambitions are realised through collaborative leadership.

With experience in NHS leadership and/or government affairs and public policy, you will exemplify our values of independence, fairness, excellence and transparency, bringing the necessary skills, personal values and qualities to help lead the implementation of our strategy externally and scrutinise our performance and delivery against strategic goals.

This is a pivotal time for PHSO. If you have the necessary skills, expertise, and experience, share our passion for making a real difference to public services and embrace our values and culture, we hope you will apply.
