The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking an exceptional HR leader to take on a pivotal role within its senior leadership team. As HR Director for the Digital and Transformation Group, you will be at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious public sector transformation programmes, supporting a directorate of over 8,000 people and helping to shape the future of digital service delivery across the department.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity to partner directly with the Director General for Digital and Transformation and their executive team. You will lead a team of 21 HR professionals and work collaboratively across the People and Capability Group to deliver a people strategy that aligns with DWP’s transformation priorities. Your role will be central to driving organisational development, workforce planning, and leadership capability, while ensuring the group benefits from the full value of the department’s people and capacity provision.

We are looking for a confident and inspiring leader with a strong track record of delivering people strategies in complex, fast-paced environments. You will bring deep expertise in organisational development, change leadership, and people analytics, alongside the ability to influence at the highest levels and build trusted relationships across the organisation. You will be expected to demonstrate strategic insight, business acumen, and a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and high performance.

Candidates should hold or be willing to work towards CIPD Chartered Fellow status. The selection process will assess candidates against the Civil Service Success Profiles, with a focus on behaviours including Seeing the Big Picture, Leadership, Communicating and Influencing, Changing and Improving, and Making Effective Decisions.

This is a rare opportunity to lead meaningful change in a department that touches the lives of millions. If you are passionate about public service and ready to take on a role of national significance, we would be delighted to hear from you.
